Who Needs Counselling?
Contrary to popular belief counseling it isn’t something that people in a crisis need. A regular person can also benefit from counseling. It is like going to a doctor after trying self-medication. The way we need professional’s help for our physical health, we need professionals help even for our mental health.
So How Does a Counsellor Help?
A Counsellor helps make you be better equipped to understand yourself and cope up or resolve issues. A counsellor’s job is not to advise you and solve your problems. The counsellors are trained to be empathetic, non-judgmental and maintain confidentiality. A counsellor has no curiosity in anyone’s personal space, their intention is to help & guide their client.
Why I need a therapist ? I am intelligent to can resolve my issues.
Intelligence and emotions are two different things. There are no evidences that intelligent people can’t be emotional. Being stressed and feeling a burn our can be for any one. The therapist can reflect on your feeling and make you more self-aware.
I cannot share my personal life with a stranger?
The stranger or a counsellor is trained to be non-judgemental and he is ethically bound to maintain confidentiality. However it is your choice what you want to share with the counsellor. It is like when you see a doctor you share all your symptoms, if you miss out on any doctor many not be able to assess the situation easily.
Therapy or counselling is only for psycho’s?
Therapy is for people who have enough self-awareness to realize they need and want to empower themselves to be more confident and emotionally balanced.
Why do the therapist ask me questions about some past incidents ?
The therapist ask questions about past to understand your feelings, behaviour and thought. They only want to understand the pattern and help if you resolve current challenges.
Anyone can do therapy. I can speak to my friends. Why should I even pay for this?
Yes your friends and family can help you. But their experiences in life is based on their own belief ‘s and values. They may not be able to be non-judgemental while listening to you.
